One year ago, I took the leap into entrepreneurship, starting Agile Finance Consulting. It was a mix of excitement, uncertainty, and determination.

Now, a year later, I’m pausing to reflect on this incredible journey—what I’ve learned, how I’ve grown, and what I’m taking with me into year two.

One Year Ago: A Leap Into the Unknown

Starting my journey as an independent consultant wasn’t just a professional shift; it was a personal one, too. I remember feeling excited about the freedom to shape my own business and pursue meaningful work but also nervous about the unknown: “Will I find clients? Am I good enough to do this alone?”.

What I also felt was determined to challenge the traditional ways of finance and budgeting and bring agile finance principles to the forefront!

Feelings Then vs. Feelings Now

One year later, my perspective has evolved:

Then: I was filled with questions and doubts. I often felt like I was stepping into uncharted waters.

Now: I feel proud of my resilience, grateful for my clients and the relationships I’ve built, and energized for what’s ahead. The unknown is no longer intimidating—it’s exciting!

Key Learnings From Year One

  1. Embrace Uncertainty – The entrepreneurial path is full of surprises. I’ve learned to adapt, trust the process, and see challenges as opportunities to grow.
  2. Value Relationships Over Transactions – My greatest successes this year have come from building genuine connections—trust, collaboration, and shared goals lead to lasting results.
  3. Agility Applies to Everything – Living the principles I preach—adapting plans, iterating, and focusing on outcomes—has been a game-changer, not only for my clients but for my own business.
  4. Invest in Yourself – Whether it’s learning new skills, networking, or finding time for rest, I’ve realized that self-investment is essential for long-term success.
